Section 01
Introduction
Mahr is one of the most misunderstood parts of a Pakistani nikah. Many families still treat it as a symbolic figure written quickly on the nikahnama, sometimes negotiated down to a token amount. In Islam, mahr is a serious right — a gift from the husband to the wife that belongs solely to her, given as an honour and a sign of commitment. Understanding what mahr is, and what it is not, helps couples begin their marriage on a foundation of dignity rather than confusion.
"And give the women their dowries as a free gift; but if they of themselves be pleased to give up to you a portion of it, then eat it with enjoyment and with wholesome result."
